Pockets in Everything Workshop

LLS Pockets Workshop (1).png

Annoyed that pockets are too small, or don't even exist in your pants, jackets, and so on!

LoveLaceSpace has a solution! Let's have an evening learning how to put pockets in whatever you want. No sewing experience required, we have some crafty people on the night assisting and answer any questions you may have.

If you have a sewing machine, bring it along and join us at The Digital Depot, who's our amazing host.

Do bring along

  • Item of clothing to receive pocket; preferably non-stretch, heavy material, e.g. jeans, skirt, hoodie, recommended for beginners.
  • Some material to make the pocket out of, and thread to go with it. We will hopefully have some remnants you can use, but can't guarantee you'll find a pattern/colour/material you like.
  • Sewing kit and sewing machine, if you have them.
  • Pencils and paper scissors, if you have them.

Is there food?

No, feel free to bring your own food and beverages. There is a vending machine onsite.

Feminism Knowledge Share

Feminism isn't just one movement - it's lots of movements! There's a huge variety of theory, politics, and activism in feminism. But what do they all mean? What are those three waves about? What's the difference between radical feminism and intersectional feminism? What does "leaning in" actually mean? What the heck is cyborg feminism and why do some feminists spell things weird?

Stick It To The Man

Come join us in The Black Sheep on Sunday May 28th at 2pm for a custom vinyl sticker bonanza. Is your car bumper bare? Is your bike unadorned? Does your protest poster need a bit of pizazz? Does your laptop need a facelift? We'll show you the basics of vector graphics and cut your sweet custom-designed vinyl decals. Cranky political designs preferred but not mandatory.

Bring a laptop and a tweezers if you have them, but we'll have a couple of spares of both. We'll be using Adobe Illustrator and Inkscape, so having one of those pre-installed will save you time.

The workshop will unfortunately have to take place downstairs, due to the necessity of using a projector. If you have mobility issues, please don't be put off by this. We will ensure you are not excluded from the workshop. At Lovelace Space, we're conscious of the importance of accessibility, and will do our best to avoid situations like this in future.

Cross stitch for choice

When you're angry, there's nothing like stabbing something a few hundred times. Which is why we're running a cross stitch workshop in support of The Abortion Rights Campaign. Entry is free, and a kit with all the materials you need to make your own badge will be available for €5. We have a few pro-choice patterns ready for you to stitch, or you can design your own. Experienced cross stitchers will be on hand to help you out.

If you can't make it, but would like to join in from home, you can find some of the patterns we'll be using here. If you do make your own badge, please consider giving a donation to The Abortion Rights Campaign. If you'd like to share a pattern you've made yourself, send us a tweet @LovelaceSpace and we'll add it to the pattern page.
